Flight + Hotel package deal or seperately

Planning my hols for next year and just wondering if package deals where you pay for the flight and the hotel really save you that much money?

Are there any particular sites any of you good people could recommend for me to get a massive discount on Hotel and Flight.

Some hotels do not specify how many beds there are in the room so if I was booking for 3 people how exactly would I know what I end up with.

Off the shelf package holidays are sometimes cheaper, sometimes not. It sometimes depends on the destination. Do you want a booking that has package regs protection, or just a flight plus, or not even that? Just flights and accommodation booked through separate companies?
