New Boiler Quote

Options
Hi guys, I've done my research and thought what I was quoted is fair, but a lot of people I speak to think otherwise. Could someone more knowledgeable cast your eyes over this please? Would appreciate any wisdom you have to offer.

The Property -
small 2 bed detached with one shower / bathroom. The current boiler is completely dead, conventional tank fed system, about 20-25 years old, would had been put in when the house was built.

The Quote -
£2849 to replace with a combi -
Atag ic Economiser 27, 31kw Atag iGuard Magnetic filter, 10 Year Guarantee, Lifetime Heat exchanger Guarantee, Passive flue heat recovery device, outdoor weather compensation sensor', inline scale reducer.
The most efficient boiler in Europe Hot water Flow Rate 12.6 ltr min*

- Relocate boiler from kitchen to upstairs landing
- Remove old boiler and tank
- Reinstate brickwork from old flue
- Brick up & plaster patch fire opening
- Fit new condensate pipework to suitable drain position
- Upgrade gas supply pipework

Was also quoted a Worchester Bosch Greenstar 30i for £2709 with 8 year guarantee.

The Company -
Local and reputable, one of the leading installers of Atag. Been quite happy with communications so far, been fairly responsive and they had someone come out on a sunday to talk over the options. Plenty of positive reviews online, not found any negatives.

What I've Looked up -
Worcester along with Valiant seem to be the leading brands, but Atag, fairly new to the market is apparently another level above them. With the additional 2 years guarantee quoted, I'd be happy enough to go with them unless anyone thinks otherwise?

Typical boiler installations are around £2500, so since mine isn't a straight swap I would expect to pay a little more? The quoted price seemed fair to me.

We had a similar job done last year:

    - relocate boiler from airing cupboard upstairs to downstairs utility room
    - Remove old boiler
    - Reinstate brickwork from old flue
    - Brick up & plaster
    - New gas supply pipework (~10m)
    - Wired thermostat (basic)

The boiler is a Worchester Greenstar 28CDi

Job done by a local accredited plumber in our area: £2450

    I can't remember the warranty, I think it's 8 years.

Nice, thanks Pascal. I was also quoted -

Worcester Bosch Greenstar 32 CDi for £3049
    and
Worcester Bosch Greenstar 30i for £2709

    Prices seem about right?

Can I ask what the reason was to relocate down? I'm moving mine from the kitchen to the airing cupboard because there's not enough space to meet regulations.

Hi again, so not stalking you, MrDerek. Just wanted to chime in to tell you that, without all the discounts we got, our quote for a straight swap to a Worcester Bosch Greenstar 30i would have been ~£2865 so, with all the extra work you need doing, I think you're doing pretty well. This was a BG (= flipping high) price but the best of the other quotes, from a local independent we already knew, was £2200. What we actually paid was £2003. HTH.

Haha, no worries, I appreciate it :D, just with the other thread I was more after advice on the funding than I was about the actual boiler quote.

I don't qualify for any grants or discounts unfortunately.

The boiler was in a bedroom... Plus there is a nice spot downstairs for it.
  • The Atag knocks WB into a cocked hat, Atag have been one of the leading boilers makes in Europe for years, don't believe the WB hype Atag is a far superior boiler in every way

A 31Kw boiler for a small two bed house?? I have a 16kw boiler in an average three bed semi, and it's perfectly adequate.

A modern 31ke boiler will produce domestic hot water nearly twice as fast as a 16kw boiler, but modulate down to less than 16kw when the demand for heat from the central heating system is for less heat. I think 31kw is a good choice for a small house.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

We had three gas surveys done when we were collecting quotes and all said we need the boiler we have (30kw) We have a small, 3 bed semi. 16kw, from what they said, would take forever to run a bath and forget heating the house at the same time. It is about efficiency rather than capacity, I think; I'm a non-technical girly. HTH, MrDerek.

I think people are getting confused, man your 16kw will be heat only, the 31kw is for a combi & the higher output the better the hot water flow subject to incoming supply, the smallest combi available is 24kw
