Travel Insurance - stolen baggage

Hi - I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice? On a recent trip to Marseille my suitcase was stolen on the metro train. I have submitted a claim to the insurance company and have received this response:

"Please note that in order for me to correctly finalise the claim assessment I require the original purchase receipts for all items you wish to claim for.
In the absence of the original receipts please provide photographic evidence/ bank statements showing the purchases."

Surely it is unreasonable for them to expect me to have receipts for items of clothing? Providing bank statements would also be difficult as I cant remember when I bought all the items in my suitcase and the chances are I didn't purchase just that item so the amount on the statement wont match what I am claiming. I had provided a receipt as proof of purchase for the suitcase as it was new. I have also provided the police report.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Yes most people won't have receipts or photos for everything, unless they were recent purchases.

What you have to do is make a list of what you remember was in the case. E.g x shop/designer dress bought in 2014, price £x

If you claim there were designer items, then you might remember when these were bought so can try to get hold of Bank or credit card statements. You might have some photos of you wearing them. If it were general Next clothing, they might not be so demanding on the info needed.

Because Insurers make a deduction on clothing based on age of item, they need as much info as possible.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
