Not able to drill holes above window frame for curtain

I have tried to put up curtain poles above 3 different windows in the house and each time i drill I can only get about 20mm in and i think the bit is hitting metal. I have tried raising the holes half a foot above the frame and more but with no joy. We use to have wooden batons which I removed and filled over to make it a little more modern.
Any solution to this folks? could I buy a metal drill bit and continue or will it be dangerous damage the metal? Under if it is a steel lintel, but its not that deep?
Thanks
S

Just get a metal bit and carry on drilling through it.0

Sound like you are hitting the lintel
try drilling above it0 -
mixed views, if it was the lintel...is it OK to drill through with metal drill bit?0

Concrete lintel?0

If you can't see the lintel above the window from the outside it is probably a Catnic. Relatively thin metal, easy to drill through with the correct drill and bit.0

Maybe you could fix a wooden baton to the wall with some strong adhesive then you can screw into that?0

Best of luck. I'm predicting it's a badass concrete lintel and you will get no further. My adventures above

I had this problem a few years ago. Solved it by hiring a much beefier hammer drill from a tool hire place - I think that was concrete lintels then. The only good thing is, when you do eventually get your curtains/blinds fixed, you know they'll be secure!0

thanks folks
