Interestingly there was an article in the times yesterday stating that buying a bar with cash would allow you to negotiate a good discount on any car car purchase. Journalism quality is poor, but this is an article out of the eighties, if not before, pretty terrible really.

Barter? 50 cases of "whatever you fancy drinking" against "whatever you fancy driving"?:rotfl:

The discount was not available to anyone who paid with cash, so you had to go through a credit approval process and sign a finance agreement which you then paid off and cancelled.

The idea that cash was "king" is a nonsense, as evidenced by the discrimination against cash buyers and your being forced to sign credit agreements to access the best price, and feeling proud of yourself that you were able to use a loophole to be able to spend your cash (which they did not really want) while still accessing the discount; real end of story.

If you'd got the discount by paying cash why did you have to take out a loan?

So I shouldn`t have signed a credit agreemant to get an extra £1100 at no cost to me?

Companies don`t really want your cash, are you kidding me.
I thought that was the whole idea of business.
They sell goods to get cash to make profits.

This all started because I said cash was king and someone replied "try buying a car".
I did buy a car with cash and got a great deal.

I`ve already explained this if you take the trouble to read the thread.
But the short answer was to get the extra £1100 off the car.

I should add that is what was on offer at that time.
What the incentives are now, I don`t know.
It made no difference to me, all I wanted was the most money off the car I could get.

There were all different amounts to "borrow" and £2.5k was the least.
As I said I didn`t want or need it but to get the extra £1100 off that was the deal.
No skin off my nose, as far as I`m concerned they gave me an extra £1100 off and it cost me nowt.

But as has been repeatedly pointed out you didnt. You bought with a loan plus cash and the deal wasn't available just for cash. How you then settle the loan is irrelevant, without it you wouldn't have got the discount.
I buy things with a 0% credit card, it costs me nothing but it's not cash.

Without taking their finance (which I didn`t need) I would not have got the extra £1100 off.
I would have got £1900 off.
Having the cash got me the deal because I knew it was only a formality paying it off interest free.

If it was not permitted to pay it off quickly and mean`t incurring charges, I would have walked away and looked for another deal.

When you`ve got cash that`s what you can do because cash is king.

Several people have now explained this to you, live on in your ignorance and be happy.
