OS Daily Monday 22 August

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone.

Yesterday passed so quickly. I slept for much longer than usual, only getting up for loo breaks a couple of times. The most I did was rearrange some stuff on the shelves in the back barn to make room for the huge packet of loo rolls I'd bought in Cost*o the other day. And tidied the kitchen too. The sun came out later in the afternoon which drew me outside for a short walk.

Today I need to buy a plunger to help sort out a bathroom problem. That's the only plan so far. :rotfl:

Hugs to those who need them, and candy for the loss of her lovely pet.

Happy Monday to all.

A wet start here but due to get better later, hope so as I am carless for a couple of days. I'll take the bike on the train to work and cycle home (about 10 miles), then collapse in a heap!

First full week back at work, I'm sure it will be busy.

Hope the poorlies are feeling better. Have a good week. Take care. XX

I've got a very short video, my laptop and mr tru's phone don't get along but I'll try to copy it then upload it to Photobucket.

I'm pleased it's monday, everyone else is going to work. I need some peace and quiet, it was people overload yesterday. It's raining on and off here so just a short walk this morning. The house is unusually tidy for a monday, I'll flit about with a duster and put a few stray things back in their proper homes. Then I have a bit of work to do. That'll take me up to lunchtime, not sure what to do after that. Crochet, probably :D

Morning everyone

Gers - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light, but cloudy and overcast, laying water everywhere, but wind has died down a bit, forecast is brighter later and then becoming hot over the next few days. Was very windy over the weekend, but DH and DS2 got the caravan to the site on Saturday in one piece, but they didn't get the awning up as it was too windy - DS2, myself and our friend are supposed to be putting it up when we go back on Thursday - we'll see!

Lunch yesterday was a late one, boys were at my parents as my bro and sil were there and they had bbq for lunch and ds1 helped make a dessert of brioche and cooked peaches, dh and myself didn't get back from the caravan until into the afternoon and I cooked the food that we took to the caravan and didn't eat - chicken breast, salt and pepper kebabs, rice, and a side salad. Dinner tonight will be chicken breasts, burgers, salad, jacket potatoes, pork pie with egg in it, pasta salad, may whizz up some HM coleslaw too.

There is washing to go out on the line, but weather not great so need to decide whether to leave it or put it out and hope, I've missed many good drying days as haven't put washing out as it didn't look very promising first thing, only for the skies to clear and it be glorious 2 hours later! May well just put it out and hope for the best.

Exam results this week for DS2, he's really worried, he's not academic and really struggles, just hoping he's done enough to get on his course. There are of course other options and a lower level he could start at but he wants to get good enough grades to get on at the level he's been offered a place on - fingers crossed. I'm trying to reassure him that it's ok whatever he gets, he did his best, we'll deal with whatever it is and move forward, there's always other options. It doesn't help that DH expects them to do well, but isn't particularly encouraging and didn't get hardly any qualifications himself..... good old mum (aka me) gets to deal with it all and pick up the pieces when needed!

Keep safe and well x

Morning everyone,

Dry and bright here but boy did it rain in the night, had a restless night and lay awake for some time listening to it against the windows.

Back to work this morning, my OH wants me to hand my notice in straight away but I am reluctant to do that until we are clearer on timescales etc. That said one sarcastic comment from my supervisor and I will struggle to hold my temper!

Sorry to hear about your dog Candygirl they are such a big part of our families aren't they x

Have a good day everyone, take care folks x

Morning all, thanks for the thread Gers X

I could've done with another hour in bed after the busy weekend we've had. I'm at the church this morning printing the monthly magazine, so that's my hours used up!

DS1 has an extra shift at the cafe, so DH will need to take him for 10am. He will hopefully be back labouring tomorrow, will check with the builder today,

Nmlc - I was in your position last year re. GCSEs for DS1. A different problem in that he's bright but lazy! We managed to get him onto his course and it hasn't been plain sailing, but I feel we are getting there slowly. Good luck to your DS2 for the results xxx

Need to put some washing on before I leave. My dad is finally coming to see us today - he 'forgot' last Monday, and is only over until Sunday. We are not his priority it would seem, which is a shame for the grandchildren but hey ho. Not sure what to cook - can't justify going out to eat due to the expense, but may be a different story if DH hears about the job today. Still no news......

Hope you all have a good day.

This thing keeps eating my words. Dear tablet, I hope you get indigestion.
Good morning everyone, it is very grey here and although meant to warm up, I think the greyness will be with us for the day. Managed to get some washing dry yesterday but that won't happen today.
I will be whizzing round and about for work today (more trudging really) and my week is closely planned, diary rammed.
I'm loads better, just a bit of a residual cough but OH has caught my bug with a vengeance and he isn't the man flu type. DS ok though, thank goodness as he does not manage illness easily.
I must get off and earn our living now, hope everyone has a good day and nmlc, I wish your son all the best, everything crossed.

• Morning all,

Hope you all had a nice weekend. Back to the grind this week.

I had a lovely one. Relaxed yet productive. I made a Kinder cake yesterday with my gf's niece which, I must say, was delish. Managed to only have 1 slice too!

Coxy - Still no news?! I was hoping to read of the great news by now.

Hi all

Getting back into the old style habits again after falling off the wagon, so to speak.

Made what I call a 'fridge bottom' meal yesterday (using up bits from the fridge/freezer close to, or just past their date). A pie using leftover bacon joint, a tin of chicken soup from the cupboard (as I didn't have any cream to make a creamy sauce myself), an onion, some previously chopped and frozen peppers and mushrooms, and a pack of puff pastry I had stored in the freezer. With mashed potato. Was tasty, and there's enough left over for another meal today.

And then tonight, we'll have a jacket potato (beans for me, tuna mayo for hubby). Which means I've actually used up all of the potatoes we had in stock, BEFORE they went bad for the first time in weeks (it was hard to keep on top of cooking etc in the first few weeks after DD was born).

Was hoping for a NSD today, but we need bread and milk, and now potatoes (plus a few other bits, like tissues but they're not urgent and it will depend on what I can fit in the basket under the pram (as I will walk - good exercise and saves on fuel).

The fish have been fed and the dog has had her morning constitutional, hubby has been dropped at work with his packup, I then went to DD2's so she could have a lie-in as she is working the late shift this week.
I got the DGC breakfasted and the baby's nappy changed, I think the dog is going home today, but only for a week as then they are off on holiday for a week.
Next weekend we have 2 DGC from my other DD to stay.
I have found some old pillows that a friend needs for toy stuffing so I will drop those round to her later and I have another load of washing to do.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester
