Tesco Pet Insurance - Renewal or Brand New Policy?

Renewal for my cat has just come through rising to £4.28 per month from the £4 per month it is now. Just done new quote on their site and its coming up at £3.70 but states this includes 20% discount and is only for new customers only in their first year. Does anyone know if there is a way around this? If Tesco would ever findout? Maybe take the new policy out in my wifes name?

  • We had policy with Tesco for our 2 cats. Renewal went up by over 30% despite no claims in last 5 years! Rang tesco and best they could do was reduce it by £2 a month but still expensive. Said we wouldn't renew and would go elsewhere.

Looking around today and Tesco are offering 50% off during their pet week thing so am taking policy out in my name (as last policy in OH's name.) previously we had the ordinary 12 mth cover. Now I can go for the extra cover and it costs less than we were paying before! Makes MSE sense to me.
If they ask I'll tell them my OH and I have just split and the cats are now MINE so my responsibility!! He he!

I'd be very shocked if their system s couldnt connect the two of you. I assume you will also tell them that you arnt living together.

It may make MSE sense now, but how much sense would it make with a conviction for fraud?
  • Customers who cancel at renewal stage and then return as a new customer are known in the insurance industry as 'churn' customers so you may find that Tesco come across this fairly often. I've done it with my car insurance before - have even called the insurers and told them I'll be taking out another policy (usually through the website as cheaper) and have never had any problems.
