Fixing Car Problems

Options
We've just taken a car to a garage to have a leaking coolant liquid problem fixed. In theory it should be a fairly straight forward job - find source of leak with coolant system under pressure and hopefully resolve the problem

At first they said they couldn't find the leak, but then they said they traced it to a part (£54 before VAT), but it still leaks. Total bill was just under £200 (at an independent dealer, not a main dealer) for the part, 2 hours labour and coolant

After driving about 2 x 10 mile trips it has leaked about 300-400ml, which is about what it was the first time the warning came on and topped it up before it went to the garage

Just wondered what the rights were on fixing issues like this, and whether they could keep investigating and charging labour etc for something mechanical like this

Your advice would be greatly appreciated please!

Just tell them the leak you employed them to fix hasn't been. There should be no charge for subsequent work..

You seem to be pretty confident in saying it needed a pressure test and it should locate the fault, so maybe you should have advised garage what should be changed.
You dont say car mileage age etc.
This is important because one can create many problems by simply pressure testing a water system on a car and finding weak points.

Maybe garage were erring on side of fault finding rather than putting an end of life radiator /water pump seals etc to the ultimate test?
I like my pressure tester but i use it wisely like it seems they did.

What matters is what precisely the OP engaged the garage to do. What precisely did the OP ask them to do?
