Hi
My mum has been renting out her former home and has just renewed the landlord insurance. However the tent moved out last week and she has decided to sell the property.
Does the landlord insurance she has cover her for a limited period of time? What type of insurance does she need - the property is completely empty now.
Thanks

Have you read the policy?
I'm afraid I don't have a copy here.....0 -
I have just been in the same situation. My landlord insurance only covered me for the property being empty for 60 days. I had to cancel it and take out a new Empty Property Insurance.0

the conditions relating to the cover provided by your mother's existing policy will be set out in the wording of that policy. Since we do not know who it is with and what it says the experiences of others on their policies are just general indications of what might be possible and are thus not an answer to your question - go read your policy0

Sorry to be confusing - my question is more about the change of use - will the landlord insurance still cover for the 30 days as she is not about to get another tenant?0

You need to check her particular policy as each policy is different.0

Just call them. My LL insurance didn't even have a limited cover once the property was empty with intention to sell, it was immediately invalid. There are very few providers of empty property insurance too. It's tempting to chance it but for the relatively small amount it costs, it's just not worth the risk. We used Adrian Flux who specialise in all kinds of non-standard insurance.0

Thanks phirefly - that seems the best advice - i guess if something happens and they can get away without paying , they will.0

It's maybe best for an offical answer from the insurance company and request it in writing/email.
If the insurance company does live chat, you have the option to email yourself the transcript.0 -
found the policy booklet - no details in the renewal letter i had. it states unoccupied for 45 days = not insured. that gives me time to find empty property insurance.0
