Cheapish skiing holidays for a first timer?

Hi guys,
looking to book a skiing holiday - never been before so no idea how to go about it.
We can go any time so can avoid school holidays and not too fussy whether it's before or after christmas and not too picky about where we go.
are we better off booking it all separately or going through a travel agent? If there's only a marginal saving to be made I'd probably go through through a travel agent/website out of easiness.
Thanks!
damo

First off, where are you going skiing?! Alps (which country), scotland, the US, canada, the himalayas? That would be a starting point.
Then it is what accomodation/board - catered chalet (good for groups), B&B, hotel, lodge et al.
Do you have a budget? how many are going? Do you need skiing/snowboarding lessons?
I'd probably say you need a travel agent as you don't seem to have a clue what you want.0 -
There are cheap coach holidays around, under £500 HB for 7 days BUT check the snow record for the resort as often the cheapest ones are outside the main snow times.0

Thanks Dom - you're right, i've no idea what I'm after! other than somewhere in europe, I'm open minded.
Do you have a budget? £1000 in total ideally
how many are going? 2
Do you need skiing/snowboarding lessons? no need for lessons
Might call into a travel agent and get some info and try reduce the levels of cluelessness!0 -
Crystal Ski and Inghams ski offer a large number of package holidays from many UK airports, have a browse of their websites or get their brochures for more information. Some of their convenient flights are only available on a package holiday basis.
The ski season is quite long and has low demand periods just before Christmas, late January/early February and late April.
Ski forum websites have a plethora of information about which resort and when to go for better snow/glacial skiing and value for money when you are there etc.
There a lot of ski flights on Saturdays and Sundays so it's easier to book it yourself when you know what you want, your preferred airports' website should list these.
There are some indoor ski slopes in the UK if you want a bit of pre-training.
Aldi and Lidl often have ski clothing specials and Primark does ski clothing aswell.
Www.guardian.co.uk/travel and https://www.independent.co.uk/travel have lots of ski holiday information and frequent features on best value for money resorts.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Hi Damo,
£500 could get you somewhere nice, but it won't include food, and possibly not lift passes.
I'd stay within the alps; perhaps have a chinwag with a travel agent to see what is out there, and check the snow reports as said above. Some of the larger resorts have snowblowers for the main runs.
I'd say Austria has been the cheapest of our previous breaks (been a while since I was on snow), but my fave - and most expensive - was trois valees - bloody amazing.0
