My desktop is taking an age just to load anything up. First I thought it was just graphic stuff that was taking time but now the whole thing is slow. I have tried a system restore but that seems to have had no beneficial effect any suggestions please?

1. What's performance like in Safe mode?
2. disk OK? run chkdsk on C: drive (will need a reboot)
3. Is the computer virus and malware free (malwarebytes for the latter)
4. The fun starts... disable msconfig startup items...
