PPI reclaim - SAR required ?

Hi,
Some time ago I contacted Santander with regards to a mortgage I had with Abbey National which I took out in 2000.
When I took this out I also took PPI as it was intimated to me by the bank that this would be the only way I would be accepted.
When I contacted them they said that they could find no reference to PPI against that mortgage account.
I know I had it as I claimed against it when I was made redundant from my job.
What should I do from this point ? I believe I could make a Subject Access request but am not sure what to request or where to send it ?
Many thanks.

If you claimed on the policy it sounds like it was suitable for your needs.
If they state there is no MPPI connected to your account then you need to prove otherwise. Then you need a valid reason for reclaiming.0 -

There were deals in that era where MPPI was required to get a preferential rate. That is allowed and if yours was one of those then your complaint is dead in the water.
However, if yours was not one of those then you have an easy complaint. You just provide them with your evidence supporting your allegation and the evidence will do all the work for you. Of course, if you have no evidence then it just becomes an unprovable allegation and most on that basis (ignoring any other reasons that may exist of be found) would be rejected on that point. When I contacted them they said that they could find no reference to PPI against that mortgage account.
One of the reasons most MPPI complaints fail is that the MPPI is standalone. It is not built into the debt like loans. It is a monthly direct debit. So, you wouldnt expect to see it on the mortgage account. Sometimes it is bought at the same time and the application for the MPPI can be seen as part of the mortgage application but that is not particularly common. If you used a broker that would certainly not apply (and you wouldnt be complaining to Santander if you did).I know I had it as I claimed against it when I was made redundant from my job.
Excellent. This eliminates many of the reasons you have to complain and reduces the chances of success with your complaint.
1) it shows you were eligible (as it paid out)
2) it shows you knew about it (as you claimed)
3) if shows you had a financial need for it (as a claimable event happened)
It will be a pretty easy complaint for them to reject as your only appear to have an unprovable allegation vs a policy that paid out. However, even if they uphold the complaint, they can offset the amount paid out under the claim against it and this often means no redress is payable where the claim exceeds the premiums.? I believe I could make a Subject Access request but am not sure what to request or where to send it ?
You can spend £10 on that if you don't believe them. It still may not find anything (if it was arranged via broker or post sale of the mortgage) and you will be £10 down. Even if they find it, you dont appear to have a valid complaint and redress even if upheld is likely to minimal or none.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). just to clear up you can still make a PPI complaint even though you've claimed however the chances are less likely you'll get anything back as people have said it doesn't demonstrate you were eligible or suitable.
however i have seen complaints being upheld even though people had claimed. the process banks go through to decision a complaint is quite lengthy and through that process there will be so many reasons to uphold your complaint.ex Claims management company credit controller

If any complaint was to be upheld the amount already claimed on the insurance would be deducted from the redress.however i have seen complaints being upheld even though people had claimed. the process banks go through to decision a complaint is quite lengthy and through that process there will be so many reasons to uphold your complaint.
However, how is the OP going to complain about PPI that the Bank has no record of if he has no documentation himself?0 -

i was just clearing up the fact you can still "win" if you've already made a claim and yes it will deduct a previous claim from your redress.ex Claims management company credit controller

You can but it's a much harder case because all of the common complaint reasons are null (didn't know I had it, wasn't suitable etc) and the fact they paid out shows you needed it - a refund of premiums for a policy you claimed you didn't want when you used it is also bare faced cheek!Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
