She's wasting her money, making a £1 token payment to TV Licensing.
Failure to make the required payments, as per the payment scheme, results in the licence being revoked.
She's simply throwing money away.
Better to save her money, by canceling the licence, and stopping watching/recording live TV, and (as of next month), watching Catch-up on BBC I-Player.0 -
OP why is your friend not able to get benefits?
Please ignore the advice of the above poster http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/check-if-you-need-one/topics/bbc-iplayer-and-the-tv-licence&WT.mc_id=mec_Search_BrandPaid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.0 -
They where turned away when they applied but I think its more a case of pride where they didn't do enough to claim what they where due.
I think the housing is a priority for now.Grocery challenge Feb £107/£100-epic fail due to cake and biscuits

Please explain why my advice should be ignored.0 -
As a (presumably) healthy adult she has zero chance of being offered social housing. I'd suggest that she looks for somewhere else to live asap, somewhere very much cheaper.0

First thing is to find somewhere cheaper to live £1250 on a less than £1500 monthly wage, ignoring arrears is not sustainable. If she is single then a room in a shared house is much cheaper than self contained. Just to be clear I would also suggests she speaks to her landlord rather than just not making rent payments. He or she then needs to be treated as an unsecured creditor once a cheaper place found. Maybe the landlord would accept lower rent whilst this being sorted.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. With the 750 I'd sort the car so can get to work. Then council tax, and others. Why can they not pay say 300 towards rent arrears to show willing?
Why can't they get a lodger?

She wont pass the credit checks with an agency property due to redundancy is two months in arrears with everything has no deposit until 30th September, and has a pet - says no one wants to know... Was made redundant and new job is much lower pay - been trying for 3 months to get lodger and 2nd jobs.
I think the best advice here is to give everyone a token payment and save money to move on 30th September - then use her excess once housed to make payments to all her debts.Grocery challenge Feb £107/£100-epic fail due to cake and biscuits
