    Hi,
are yours and your wifes mental health problems stable/manageable/controlled at the moment? Are there any avenues you could go down regarding this , such as GP review, Mental Health Services, coaching, workshops, therapies etc? Perhaps something to occupy your time out of the house may help your mental well-being? Hobby/ volunteering maybe?

How did you get into the original debt (that you re-mortgaged for)?
Could either /both of you work a few hours? If not out of the home-
On-line surveys seem popular, have a look at the Up Your Income board.
Could you rent a room out? or driveway for that matter?

What are your wifes views on the debts? maybe you could both start with small steps, as the advice given so far seems too much for you?

As said previously, more help will be forthcoming once you post up your SOA, in fact I'll post a list for youbelow, then you don't have to struggle with the website its on, obviously it won't calculate for you, but we can have a bit of a view of whats what.

    good luck :)
  • 1700 a month on gas an electric? my 4 bed detached house is £170 so surely you have added a 0 unless you own a castle

if you do have a large house have you considered renting rooms out? bed and breakfast or similar? i appreciate with mental health issues it may not be possible but as an idea to make some money from the spare rooms?

if not i would sell and rent even if you wont make enougj to buy another house. a modern house will save you a fortune in bills and maintenance costs and you could clear your debts and be worry free which would help your mental health i am sure

They will be gobsmacked that you can spend £100 a week on food.
If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.
  • Would you have much left over from the sale of your house after using the proceeds to pay off your debt? Perhaps sell up then just rent somewhere smaller and cheaper to heat and maintain?

    Target MFD 1st April 2023
  • You have now started to open up about your finances.

£100 a week for food is far too high for two people, even if you include two cats and a dog.

And fags??? They alone cost a fortune. Especially if you both smoke.

Work on getting the SOA up on here so that help can be offered.

But it has already been said. You have two choices - cut expenditure or increase income, or a combination of both. There is no third choice.

"would be great if week could feed the 2 of us, 2 cats and a dog for say £75 per week, it normally runs to about £100 per week without the fags."

that is a big amount for two of you!! and stop the fags..

    Hi,

I don't have time for a full reply but this is relevant:-

Quote "My total income is approximately £250 per week. I take out £100 per week on a Monday from which I buy my food and anything else I need for the house. I'm divorced but have a lady friend who lives 100 miles away and spend about £75 a month of diesel to go up there twice a month. From that £100, I usually have £40-£50 left over each week. End Quote.

So that makes that this single pensioner spends about £50 a week for one person so I believe that for 2 people, 2 cats and 1 dog £100 per week is reasonable?

That does include such as cleaning materials etc.

    I'll comment more later.

Sorry but you missed out the next line, which read:
"But it all depends on your life style. I can feed myself well on £25 a week."
