Paying finance for goods not recieved

Options
Hi Everyone!!

First of all I must let you know this is my first EVER post!! So, I'll apologise now if I get anything wrong. I need some advice, I am wanting to build up my credit rating and approached perfect home. I was accepted for finance for a table and 4 chairs via their website (no local store to visit) paid my first weeks payment and was told I would be called to arrange delivery date. Now 3 payments in and I'm still awaiting delivery date, despite numerous phone calls to them. So in theory I'm paying for something I haven't got! I either get told to ring back later or they tell me they are having issues with external couriers. What are my options peeps? All I want is my ruddy table!! We are eating meals on our knees at the moment!!

Cheers in advance

If you want that table, all you can do it moan at them in the hope it will make things go faster. It probably won't though.

If you want to cancel, it sounds like you are in a distance contract, if so you can just say you don't want it and get your money back and buy elsewhere. Have your received information (probably in the T&Cs) about your "right to cancel"?

  • As you have not received the goods yet you can cancel the order and the credit agreement. I understand you want to improve your credit file but this is not the way to do it, are you aware of how much you're paying? The cheapest on their website is at least £1,000, and over a longer term £1,600. You can get a dining table etc on ebay for £50.

There's information on improving your credit file on the credit cards page. The idea is to get a card, use it for essentials and pay it off immediately, not to incur huge amounts of interest.

Written whilst eating my dinner on my knee ;)

69.8% APR!!!! Are you mad? There must be better ways to improve your credit rating.
Anyway you can cancel the order within 14 days of setting the agreement up but that is now past so ring citizens advice, here is their page.

Blimey that's extortion... would your credit history even improve using such a company??? Get yourself on your local FB selling site, I was having a noisy on ours today and am astounded by the bargains to be had items going for even cheaper than those identical or similar on eBay.
  • Freecycle often has dining tables - it won't cost you anything, and I'm sure you can spend or save £1000+ more wisely.

Buying something from Brighthouse just to improve your credit history was not a good idea, they are in the same class as payday lenders. So it is possible it will have a detrimental effect on your credit history.

Just to add that the time-honoured way of building up a credit rating is to take out a credit card, and the APR doesn't really matter because you are only going to spend a couple of hundred every month and pay it ALL off every month.

Cancel this ridiculous loan-shark agreement and get a table from freecycle, facebook, ebay, charity shop etc. There is a project near me that lets unemployed people build up skills making furniture and sells it to the public. Much better value for you and a good cause too.
