I did several viewings without my husband - including the house we bought!

With respect, that wasn't what was being said. It would be a brave man who did a viewing and made an offer without the wife seeing it. Other way round .... ? ;)

It costs nothing to make an offer, so I'd do that alone if I thought someone else might jump in and beat me to it!
  • you have to work with what you can - I work weekdays he works weekends. Just using us an example of separate viewing as we both knew roughly what we wanted and quite a few houses we could rule out after first viewing.

    Of course, that's perfectly understandable.

Speaking from many years of experience, I would be extremely nervous of discussing an offer for a property with the husband when the wife hadn't viewed. The other way round wouldn't bother me as much, although still not ideal.

In my experience wives mostly have the final say on which house to buy.

Offer was made after 2 separate then a joint viewing - just saying some of the houses he said no too I didn't view.

Moral of the story - if you are choosing an agent don't think big chain = well staffed, flexible etc.

Take annual leave and make the most of the day by viewing multiple properties. Or start work earlier and ask to leave earlier.
