I know people smirk when I get out my packed lunch each day and have had comments made about me being careful (not overly unkindly but still pointedly) but I casually remind them I have had 2 holidays already this year and am looking forward to my next break in a few weeks time....... If they choose to spend their money in Greggs each day that's up to them.Never, ever give up........0

For me, it's the people who turn the heating on instead of getting a jumper. At work I sit in a stifling office because colleagues are wearing things like T-shirts, summer dresses and sandals with bare legs... in February.0

Ah, so it's not just me, then! I do occasionally wonder.
Just had another example earlier today. A friend and I arrived at the tube station at 18:59. I suggested we wait for 3 minutes before going through the Oystercard reader, as then our journey would cost us 90p less. She said she couldn't be bothered for 90p.
I thought about saying to her that I have paid off our mortgage 11 years early, whereas she owes god knows what on her credit card.....but I couldn't be bothered!0 -
It is one thing looking in bemusement as people spend their own money (or the bank's if they are in debt). I think the OP's examples were all of people spending her money by being wasteful guests. Frustrating. But hopefully don't add up to too much over the year, and by claiming the title of tightwad you may slowly train them. Perhaps mentally deduct it from their christmas card/present?But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

This is driving me crazy atm!
I've just started doing full days back at work after a bout of maternity leave and I'm melting - it's worse than when I was pregnant.
It's summer fgs. We're not allowed to open the (ground floor) windows and the central heating/cooling is on all day - set to 26 degrees.
There were a cloudy (but warm) couple of days last week where it was noticeably hotter in than out.
I hate being too hot - if you're too cold you can warm up - if you're too hot there are only so many clothes you can take off and stay decent :eek:Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott
It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

To be honest I don't really care about how other people live or how they budget etc - as long as it's not affecting me then they can bathe in champagne or use money instead of loo roll.
When we have guests I just have 'house rules' about not leaving lights on and 'careful with the plumbing' comments about the loo roll.
That said, I'm pretty laid back with visitors - I want them to feel comfortable so they'd have to do something pretty wasteful before I made any comment... I mean, is it worth falling out over 6 sheets of kitchen roll? A few pence worth?
I'd be mortified if someone pulled me up on something at their house - it'd make me feel very unwelcome.:hello:0 -
:T Bravo! Send the office a postcard to remind them where you've taken your savings, or where your savings have taken you.
Yes, but wait until you can take it into work yourself. No need to spend money on a stamp (especially a foreign one).
Or send e-cards.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -

Totally agree with all the previous posts. I'm OS and proud of it. Never had much money but also never been in debt. I remember when I was studying as a mature student and thinking that one day I would be able to afford proper kitchen roll. Now I can. I also wanted a store card for Oddbins but that never happened.
My neighbours are doing quite well and spend a lot (by comparison) and fair play to them, they've paid off their mortgage so why not.
But for me, now that OH is registered disabled and I'm a full time carer, every penny is a prisoner until released early for good behaviour or has a letter from it's parent. I still try to manage to get by on nothing so that I can afford a treat now and again. Today I stripped and repaired a seized engine fan and saved the £25 for a second hand unit.Thursday we had fillet steaks (with a creamy mushroom and garlic sauce and home made chips)and yesterday was monster gammon steaks (with warm potato salad, quinoa, fried egg and peach), all from a trad. butchers. I must stress this was a rare treat but OMG it was lush!
Moral of the story: If you can save enough pennies you can eventually spend a pound.I don't like morning people. Or mornings. Or people.0
