Selling car - insurance expired - do I need to renew?
Hi
I have a car that i am selling and the insurance on it runs out today - I also have own another car that I have a fully comp insurance on.
Question:
Do I need to get insurance on the car I am selling so that potential buyers can test drive it OR can I rely on my 3rd party insurance from my own comprehensive insurance.
It will be in a garage until sold.
Thanks Mark

Driving Other Cars cover on your comp. policy normally excludes vehicles you own. In any case, it would only cover you, not potential buyers.
Insuring for "any driver" is likely to be prohibitvely expensive. Best to let any buyers use their own insurance. You need to see their insurance certificates to make sure they're covered. And remember it's only 3rd party.0 -

To the OP: And also generally for their 3rd party insurance to be valid, there needs to be valid insurance on the car itself. Potential purchasers might not enjoy being pulled over on their test drive and risking 6 points and struggling to hire cars from mainstream rental companies.0 -
Most insurers now stipluate that the vehicle you want to drive must be insured for the driving other vehicles cover.
Now we have continuous insurance legislation, ALL vehicles must either be insured (and taxed, but that is a different fine) or SORN'd.
So the answer to the OP is either insure it, or declare it SORN and keep it off road, but then it cannot be driven on the road until it is taxed, so no test drives.
This is how WBAC get so many cheap cars, they will pay about £80 for pretty much anything, but you have to drive it down there, so they go on the last day of insurance if they didn't sell through adverts. It comes down to insure it again, take £80 off WBAC, or £30 from a scrapyard, possibly nothing if they are coming to collect it.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
