Hi everyone I have been a lurker on these forums for a while and was hoping that you guys may be able to give me some advice.
I defaulted on an account back in July 2010 as I had been made redundant and was unable to meet my payments the default balance was £1599. At the time I attempted to engage with the lender to discuss possible options They didn't respond so basically the default simply remained on my credit file until last month when as expected six years after the default date it dropped off.
However I checked my credit report this morning and the account has reappeared with all of the same previous details and a default date of 31/12/15.
I have had literally no contact with this company in the last 6 years. It is my understanding that they shouldn't be able to do this.
Does anybody have any advice on the steps that I would need to take to resolve this?

Is it definitely a default date and not a CCJ date? If so, I would guess that the debt was sold on and the new owner has put inaccurate details on the file. Either way you need to query this. Has the name of the creditor changed?0

this is obviously statute barred or due to become so soon
some companies do this with defaults hoping it will force you to contact them and pay, or admit the debt before it becomes statute barred0 -
It is definitely a default date not a CCJ date and the creditor details are all exactly the same.
On last months file it showed as a closed account now it has reappeared with exactly the same details and a new default date
If this debt is statute barred what will happen to this new default? Will it remain on my file for another 6 years from the new date?
I have had no contact with this company since probably May or June 2010 when I contacted them to explain my situation0 -
what sort of debt?0

Complain stating that:
- The new default date they have recorded is false and inaccurate, as as such they are in breach of the Data Protection Act/principles and ICO guidelines.
- That you consider the deliberate recording of false information on your credit file to be an act of defamation, and may consider taking legal action on this basis.
- That unless they correct/remove the falsely dated default, you will be reporting their breach of the DPA to the ICO, and will be taking a complaint to the FOS to enforce removal and for compensation/redress.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Thanks the info is appearing on my noddle report (so call credit) I have posted a query with them stating that the date is incorrect and currently waiting back to see what they say. It isn't on my Equifax report, haven't checked Experian yet.
So frustrating that this can happen with no supporting info! I'm in a much different situation than 6 years ago so to have this reappear on what should be a clean credit file is so annoying!
Hopefully I can get it cleared up with the agencies if not I will be going to the source0
