Help with a returns label please

I have never had to return an item before and would appreciate some advice.

I received an item recently that is SNAD and contacted the seller (a business, not private). They asked for pictures which I sent to them. They replied that the item was what I ordered but I could return for a refund, at my own expense, and they would refund minus £1.99 to cover their original postage (the item was free p&p – I do realise that there is no such thing as 'free' postage).

I decided that this was not correct and opened a return via ebay pointing out that they are contravening ebay policy and within a couple of hours received notice that they would accept a return and also a return label. However, on reading the instructions for a return I notice the instruction 'Attach the label to the box and seal it securely. U]B]Make sure the barcode is visible'[/B[/U, there is no barcode. Is this correct or should there be a barcode?

Because of their initial resistance to refund I am reluctant to send back the item without further information. Thank you for reading this and any help you can offer.

I have only had to use a return label once (yesterday) so from my limited experience, If you are referring to the email messages or messages on ebay then they did not show the barcode. I did not see any bar code until I actually printed the label.

    Hope it helps

  • Thank you.

I have printed the label and there is no barcode. Still not sure what to do, but thanks for your experience.

When I printed the label it actually printed two pages:

1st there was a packing slip with item and return id etc to enclose with parcel and secondly the returns label. The label had barcode, returns address and my sender details along with ebay references.

My label was eventually printed from "Purchase History" section of myebay and then under "Returns & Cancelled Orders"

I tried printing from the email message I received but it didn't work.

Must admit I was a little worried as I couldn't see any barcode to start with and also when it didn't print from email. Especially as the seller had messaged me to say I should return second class non tracked previously.

Hope it works out for you or someone with more knowledge can provide you with an explanation.

You do need the barcode, particularly if you have a seller who appears to want to operate outside of legislation here.

Regardless of your reason for return, your full original payment is due (unless you added an expedited postage option). If the item is SNAD, then you are also due the returns postage.

What sort of label have they supplied, is it purely an address label? If it is or get onto eBay and ask them to provide the label for a SNAD.
  • I have just tried your suggestion elverman, and still no barcode. It prints the packing slip ok and then just a very large (takes up most of an A4 page) label with no barcode or return address. I have tried altering the size of the printing/paper to no effect. I have the return address as a separate screen. Thanks once again.

Thank you theonlywayisup, ebay help at the side of the screen just says if you have a problem with the label contact the seller. I will do this later, just wanted to know if anyone had encountered any problems before.
  • By return address I mean the sellers address, just realised, sorry.
