School Trousers

My 13yo DD's school has sent out a letter saying that school trousers can't be as follows

Skinny/flared/stretch/lycra/hipster/casual linen/leggings/appearance of leggings are not allowed. Trousers should not have accessory zips on, i.e. on the pocket area.

They go on to suggest that
Tesco, Primark, New Look, Debenhams and M&S all stock classic cut trousers that do meet our requirements.

The issue I have is DD is 4ft 10. The adult range of trousers suggested by school do not fit her. They are far too big. I looked yesterday amongst the school range trousers. The huge majority are labelled 'slim fit' which when DD put them on they look like what the school is saying they don't allow.

I know a last resort will be to buy too big and take them up and in, but does anyone have any suggestions as to where I could try to get something suitable in the first place for someone who isn't even 5ft tall?

Many Thanks :)

Proper school uniform shops tend to have a wide range of inner leg length.

I'd buy the slim fits, but keep the labels to prove to school (in the case of argument) that they are standard school trousers and don't fall into any of the categories listed.

Incidentally - not flares? Bootcut style (slight flare) is far more flattering to those with heavy hips ...

    Hi
I am 4ft11" and have to wear similar trousers for work. As these are womens trousers they will be smart enough for school, straight or boot cut. Asda do excellent ones at £6, they do a short and if you are lucky they do an extra short which will fit. They may be able to order into store if you ask?
Matalan, but only on line, do a 27" leg in womens trousers which would also be suitable, £12 last time I ordered some.
Bon Marche do from a 25" leg, but may be a little old fashioned for her taste also £12ish a pair.
I would suggest you order a selection on line as you can try on and return easily rather than drag round multiple shops.

I know, but I copied and pasted that word for word from their website from the letter they sent out.

To me, they are only allowing the trousers you see in an adult range, which is fine if you fit into an adult size. DD at 13 is developing so plenty of lumps and bumps but hasn't yet got the height.

We have just one school uniform shop here, but I will give that a try.

Thanks for this info, it is really helpful. I have to do a grocery shop later so will try Asda then. What size do Bon Marche start at?

I think when they say skinny they mean the ones that cling to your legs all the way down, which unless you're a stick insect are a !!!!!! to put on anyway. I'm small and wear Tesco school trousers for work. The ones I have although labelled slim fit look fairly classic when on. Wound it be worth your daughter trying them on to see what they look like?

Wonder what the reasoning is behind no accessory zips? If there is any.
