Can I use my 'old' chequebook?

I've just realised that I'm down to my last cheque, and have ordered a new book from Abbey (that 'simple' phone call was so ridiculous and convoluted that I now want to lie down in a darkened room...)
BUT it may take 10 days to arrive and I was wondering if an old 'Abbey National' chequebook I still have would be OK to use?

Provided the sort code and account number are the same as on the account you now use, should be fine.
You must be one of the very few people left using cheques at a significant rate. Once upon a time I would have been inconvenienced if I had to wait ten days for a cheque book: now I write cheques about once every three months, almost all to the kids' school.0 -
Thanks Voyager - cheques are handy for me because I attend antique auctions quite often, and believe it or not, around here there are still several shops that don't accept cards!"I'm ready for my close-up Mr. DeMille...."0

I'd be careful - in order to issue a new cheque book at some banks, all cheques have to be cancelled on that account. Check with them if the chque numbers are valid first0
