Accidental damage by my little boy!

Can anyone help me!!

My darling little boy (3yrs) has drawn all over my sofa with black biro and my leather chair!

I do have extra accidental cover (direct line) but am not sure whether or not this will be covered!?

The sofa is only about 18 months old and the leather chair is about 7yrs old but was VERY expensive when we bought it (a wedding present).

The sofa is a multiyork sofa so the covers come off but the material is light coloured and velvet so I dont think the biro will come out.

Before I phone I wanted to know if anyone has any idea whether or not I can claim for this and what the insurance company will do?

I have never made a insurance claim before so I really have no idea what I can claim for!?

Sorry for sounding dumb.

You should be able to claim for the item, however you will probably be asked a few questions, so be prepared for it.

-How long have you been on cover?
-Why was a three year old left alone with a biro long enough to draw over 2 seperate items?

They will try and get to register two claims (dont, its one incident) and will then appoint a supplier to inspect then damage. The contracter will the usually appoint a company like Furniture medic to see if they can restore the items in question, if not its a question of getting two quotes for both to replace them as most insurers dont have furntiture suppliers.

If they havent appointed a supplier straight away, the claim has probably gone for further investigation and may result in conversation management.
  • I do feel the insurer is unlikely to cover this - clearly the damage was not accidental, it would be difficult to argue a biro or similar slipped across two pieces of furniture other than it being on purpose.
  • Course its an accident - a 3 year old didnt purposefully decide to cause damage to the items.

They will deal with it under the one incident - the only problem will be if the sofa cant be cleaned and needs to be replaced.

Under the T+C you can only claim for the damaged item - therefore you would only get the sofa replaced. Any matching items, ie chairs under the policy arent covered to be replaced. They may, however, be willing to offer a contribution

    Why???

You cannot hold a 3 yr old responsible for his own actions.
