Hepatitis A and Typhoid for Caribbean cruise?

If this is not the right place to ask can this be moved, please?

The cruise we are interested in has shore excursions to Haiti and Puerto Rico. It looks as if Typhoid and Hepatitis A vaccinations are recommended.

If this is right enough (for day visits) would we have to go to a private clinic or could these vaccinations be done through the NHS/GP?

Thank you for any experience and information.

An update - I remembered the good advice earlier on this forum about Cruise Critic. I have only just registered and hope also to find some helpful information there. Thank you.

Most GP surgeries will be able to advise on waht is required depending on where you are going.

Many will do basic injections, but sometimes not all, and most will now charge.

Many private clinics can also do it.

The other consideration is time, some require a course which can take a few weeks so make sure you leave plenty of time before you go.

We are going to Cambodia later this year, and have just had our jobs, hepA, typhoid at our local doctors and no charge.

We also need malaria tablets, and are going to buy them at Asda @ 1,25 per tablet

Hubby wanted the rabies jab, but at £100 he's now given it a miss x

Combined Hep A and Typhoid vaccine is available on the NHS, generally free of charge. Recommended to have it at least 2-3 weeks before departure, but it can be given later if necessary.

Unless you're going off the beaten track why do you need Malaria tablets...

We are not long back from caribbean cruise and stayed in puerto rico for a few days. I checked and we werent required to get any vaccinations. The main issue was ensuring contraception is reliable due to zika.

Perhaps I'm lucky but I've only ever been charged for yellow fever and malaria. I last had jabs a month ago and the nurse looked at my records and said that as I travel fairly regularly to slightly off the beaten track places I might as well have a meningitis (I think) jab as they had loads in stock that were likely to be destroyed next year.

Google fit for travel or contact the travel nurse at your doctors surgery.
