Economists, not the economy, are the only ones taking a battering from Brexit

To be fair, most economists such as BOE, IMF, etc only ever said there "might" or "could" be a recession. It was the politicians who used the word "would".0 -

I doubt the average Brit is particularly happy that the cost of a week in the Sun has now shot up so much, thanks to Brexit devaluing the pound, that it's priced many of them out of doing it.
That some B&B owner may now be better off from your dismal week in Skegness instead is scant compensation.
A country whose population are forced into buying inferior holidays, goods, services, thanks solely to their currency devaluing, is not better off for it.
For someone who tries to argue from the standpoint of having the best interests of this nation at heart ....You have a terrible opinion of how this nation compares.
I expect to see your next thread on how bad team GB have done as we are so far behind the USA ..But some people never see the good they are lucky to be born with
Admittedly we don't get the sunshine of Tunisia ...But at least you won't have the same chance of bringing your family members back in a coffin after someone decides to shoot an AK at anything that moves on the beach .
But if it is a break that includes walking , sightseeing and the usual over indulgence in good food and drink ..Then the UK is as good a destination for a week of relaxation as anywhere in Europe.0 -

Whereas I trust the average Brit to understand that the future political and economic health of their country is not determined by the cost of a week in Majorca.0 -
I think we should aim for £1 buys 10 Euro Cents. We should be very competitive with that, just think of the windfall from exporters. Buy British. Don't buy from White Christian racist EU.
why do you think it is funny that the EU has done and continues to do so much damage to the people of black africa by using tariff and non tariff barriers against them : does it make you feel better about yourself?
do you not believe in the benefits that come from trade?
maybe you only consider that part of economists only apply to white christian europeans?0 -

For many package tourists, I think it's the guarantee of sunshine that's the draw. Don't get me wrong, the UK is a wonderful place to travel, but a solid week or two of good weather is unlikely. I've never thought of the UK as being particularly cheap either. Problem is, Spain and Greece haven't been either since the Euro was introduced, at any exchange rate."Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance" - Confucius0 -

I have a realistic opinion of how this nation compares.
We are very good at some things.
We are really not very good at others.
And we have many constraints (like the weather) which all the wishing in the world won't change.Admittedly we don't get the sunshine of Tunisia ..
Or Spain, or Italy, or Greece, or southern France, etc....But if it is a break that includes walking , sightseeing and the usual over indulgence in good food and drink ..Then the UK is as good a destination for a week of relaxation as anywhere in Europe.
And what if it's a break just to go somewhere different, experience new cultures, visit foreign cities, get some predictable sunshine and warm weather....
You know, all the reasons people actually like to go overseas for holidays rather than staying at home.;)“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

In that case it should be realised that this will be more expensive than staying in your own country.
A flight and a hotel SHOULD be more expensive than a drive and a caravan.
Just as a Rolls Royce SHOULD be more expensive than a Vauxhall.
Maybe more people need to realise that you should cut your coat according to your cloth.0 -

Only thanks to the economic vandalism of Brexit.
Unwinding decades of hard won gains for standards of living.Maybe more people need to realise that you should cut your coat according to your cloth.
Well there'll be a lot less cloth to make coats from, that's for sure, so people will have no choice.
But of course, that's not at all the vision of a new age of prosperity that was sold to the public by the 'Leave' campaign...
So I'd be watching my back if I were one of the Brexiteer politicians now unable to deliver on all the reckless promises I made.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
