am I in the will?

Options
A relative of mine died a couple of months ago - throughout my life I have been told they have included me in the will but I dont know this for certain.
I dont want to go asking the executor as its their immediate family so I personally think it would be poor taste to say 'sorry for your loss but was I left anything'.

It doesn't bother me either way if I was left anything - it cant bring back the person and I have many happy memories which are priceless but it would be nice to know one way or the other.

if I was to get a copy of the will from the probate office would my relatives know?

No, but could be a while before it is available on the site

I would say your best course of action will be to wai to see how the executors get on. If they are copying and you are mentioned in the will I expect they will let you know sooner rather than later. If you're not mentioned you might have to wait until with will is made public.

I would get used to waiting, even if you have been left anything it might take six months to a year before your receive it.

If the executors appear to be struggling to cope with their loss and or the work of administering the estate, you could offer to help; that might allow you to find out sooner.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

You can use a PA1S form (along with a £10 fee) and set up a standing search - If probate is granted within the next six months, you will get sent a copy of the will.

Trust me, no one will know about the standing search or know if/when a copy of the will is sent to you unless you say something. Once probate has been granted, the will becomes a public document that anyone can obtain a copy of.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.

...This presumes that the estate is large enough for probate to be needed. Don't think the will has to be made a matter of public record without probate being granted.
