Hi all,

I have two accounts that I have not made payments on since 2014. However when I recently queried if I still had an outstanding balance, they have updated my credit file with entries stating 6 payments late markers since October 2014. Then changed it to AP in May 2016 (when i contacted them about balances).

Is this correct? I think i should have been defaulted a while ago and dont want the AP markers as I haven't arranged to pay anything!

    Hi

A default should have been added 3-6 months after you stopped making payments. As you suggest, the arrangement markers should only be for when a temporary payment plan is agreed and maintained.

  • The last payment looks to have been may 2014 when you were back up-to date, the account should have defaulted around Oct if the proper default procedure was followed you should write to the lender and ask them to amend this

Ask the lender to correct your file, as Daniel says. If you have any issues with this you would then make a written complaint to the lender, and escalate your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office about credit reference issues.
