It's slightly ambiguous as to whether it was brand new or not.

Oh, right. I see what you mean. The car could already have been second hand. I just assumed that it was a brand new car. Even with a used car, though, you cannot expect the dealer to take it back at the price it was sold to you, unless there is something wrong with it.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

I just find it extremely wrong and it doesn't sit right with me. That something as expensive as a car, to coin an old phrase "buying a car is the second most expensive purchase of a persons life after a house" that you don't get a cooling off period from the dealership?!

You're absolutely right - people should have to take no ownership at all for their own decisions and car dealerships should be run as charities.

We bought a Fridge Freezer six months ago and i'm not not certain i like the shade of metallic grey and it doesnt really match the colour of the kitchen exactly therefore i should be able to return it as not fit for purpose. Its purpose after all, is to fit in with the decor of our kitchen. I'm very angry with Currys because they've refused me my basic right of a refund!

Havent they heard the expression - "the customer is always right"?

Its a fundamental right in the UK, is it not, for people to rather than take ownership of a problem of their own creation, find someone else to blame.

Have you thought of writing a firmly worded letter to your MP?
