I don't let my cat roam so its not a problem for me.

But no, a microchip is a bit like a registered keeper, like with a car and of course a chip company cannot give out peoples details willy nilly. Microchips also fail fairly often, our dog is on his second one.

It looks from her post that she hasn't bothered informing the police, which would be the correct action as a cat is property. The rescues were just helping a cat, I would of thought if a pet was missing the owner would be contact all rescues in the area and calling for updates on a fairly regular basis.

Signed. This is terrible, the whole point of a microchip is to have a cat returned if found after going missing or being stolen

GwylimT - perhaps you missed the fact that microchip details were up to date and microchip was working fine? And all the other details.

She reported the cat being STOLEN to the Police now that she knows what happened. One does not report a missing cat the Police and she was not aware cat was found, not scanned, owner not contacted and cat rehomed.

It doesn't confirm or dent whether or not the microchip was working in the link posted, it also mentions absolutely nothing about the police. I'm unable to comment on information I don't have access to.

Reading the link it does sound like the chip was working; it seems the charity tried it but didn't get in touch with the correct database. Somewhat understandable if it was, as I understand, a French chip in a cat in the UK. The link is quite hard to follow!

I saw a nearly 30 min video with the owner, chip was registered with Anibase and details were up to date. She had the cat for 4 years.

If I find the video again will post a link.

    Ah found it

Really? Why would not be easy to find? If French could trace UK chip?

I didn't say impossible, just harder. It's not like they'd see that every day. For instance, the website for the chipping database might be in French - that makes it more difficult to handle from the UK.

As long as my cats have a good home, that's all that matters to me. If they'd put a chipped cat to sleep, I'd sign.
