Painting sash windows

Options
I live in a 2 beds mid terraced house. I have been quoted £500 to paint the sash windows, does this seem fair, one double sash window downstairs and 2 small sash windows upstairs. I had them painted two years and the painter did not do a good job as the paint are peeling off and am afraid if the wood get rotten. They were installed 10 yrs ago by Everest and I do want to preserve the wood. Thanks

Is it only the outside frame that you want done ?

I assume that includes all the materials and prep - sanding/making good, undercoat, topcoat.

What kind of condition are the outside window frames in now? if they are in a bit of a state then he may need to spend quite a bit of time on prep. Prep could actually be a days work, with the final coats going on the next day.

That said, I think I only paid just over 500 for inside and out on my large floor-to-ceiling wood bay window in the south east so it does seem highish to me.

One way to look at this is to ask what he estimates in time... If he believes this is a day and a half then it is probably reasonable, as long as it is all-in. If he estimates getting it done in a day, then I would say it's probably a bit much - although I would imagine any lower quote you get probably wouldn't be that much lower.
