That depends how the cistern is secured to the wall. The old low level suites were a doddle as you could simply pull out the pipe from the cistern and pull the pan out after unscrewing it.

Mine is fairly new, but I reckon this would work. There are two wing nuts attaching the pan to the cistern,, one of which was almost coming off, I just noticed! The cistern is slightly proud of the wall with what looks like lugs attaching it to the wall. I'll have a closer look tomorrow.

It's this loo, still current on their web site, so it is close coupled (whatever that means!), but looks to be easily disassembled. I may regret saying that...

  • Hi

As you said in your OP you haven't actually looked to see where the water is coming from. Make sure it's not running down from the close coupled arrangement.

Busy rattling on the keys so missed your post.. Wing nuts should be tight so possible leak.!

I've flushed the loo a few times today, and no leaks whatsoever. Typical!
It was leaking stuff the other day: I saw it. It was dirty, not clean, and was defintely coming from the pan connector. I would have said where the ceramic pan joins the plastic, but I wasn't looking that closely. It wasn't a drip: it was a definite spurt with pressure behind it (not just gravity from above).

Ah well, I'll try again later.

Edited to say: found the leak, and it's from where the pan connector joins the waste outlet, not the ceramic. I'm all set up to give it a try, so wish me luck!

  • Hi

Ok, I would suspect the original installer was a bit short on the waste pipe and as it didn't leak it was left. I would tighten the wing nuts under the cistern finger tight before you move it out.
If that is the case then you might need an extension fitting and a new connector.(you might need to cut the soil pipe back by an inch or two. An old wood saw, but not too old, is good for that.) Personally I like the Multiquick fittings

It's done, and was relatively straightforward in the end. I nearly fell at the first hurdle when I couldn't get the cistern lid off. Luckily, I googled for how to remove a sottini cistern lid and discovered that the dual flush buttons had to be wiggled out to reveal a screw. I'd have probably broken the fitting otherwise.

The trickiest bit was getting that mechanism back on again.

I did have a bit of a leak when the new connector was fitted, mainly (I think) as I'd left too much at the pan end and sunk it too far at the waste end. I moved it a bit more half way and it seemed to fix it. This does mean that you can see sticking out about half an inch of the black seal that goes into the outside waste, but I couldn't seat this any more. It was quite deep, so I'm hoping that's enough. I checked for leaks with several buckets of water so that I could find them before the cistern was refitted, thank goodness!

I've put a dish under it now just so I can see if it's leaking at all. Looks good for the moment, and is definitely better than before, so fingers croosed.

Thanks for everybody's help, adive and encouragement.

Instead of a dish or bowl, use some kitchen roll - it acts as a much better discloser of leaks.
  • Hi.. Excellent result :T
