Hi Ambershadow,
Any person, who is not considered to be exempt from paying council tax can be held liable. Some examples of people who are exempt are students, people with severe mental health issues, people under the age of 18years etc.
It will depend on what stage of action things are at - if the council has already got a liability order and that is solely against you then the council would need to return to court and get another liability order against the other person in order to chase them, but they could be chased.

Even some of those who would be ordinarily disregarded may be liable under certain cases.I am the named account holder on the council tax and I have gotton in to some arrears... Can they chase anyone else for it other than myself ?
Council Tax liability is determined specifically in legislation - the council must follow this. If you are the only liable person then they cannot pursue anyone else for your arrears.
Who else lives in the property with you.

My husband lives there too.. They have just passed it to enforcement but I have just emailed them stating I wont be dealing with anyone other than the council and I certainly wont be paying any fees issued by them.. Any visits will also be null and void and I have told the council I will only be paying them regardless of the fact they have sent to Revetus.... .. They cant refuse payment0

Trouble I have here is I offered to pay more than I could afford and I have fallen on my face with it... I didn't contact them I just left it.. My fault really... But husband refuses to pay as its in my name0

In 99% of cases he should have been on the original bill and summons - they can't enforce against him if he wasn't named though.
A wise council , assuming he is jointly liable, would withdraw the action and re-bill in both names.
Are you joint tenants or joint owners ?

Payment against a debt should never be refused but equally it doesn't have to be taken as a formal payment arrangement and the enforcement agent can continue against you.

Please bear in mind that out of any payments you send directly to the council, they will most likely allocate a share towards any fees legitimately incurred by Reventus. Do ensure that you understand your rights and the powers of enforcement agents by reading our guide:

You cant just please yourself who you will deal with.
As above, some of the payments you send willl be allocated elsewhere, ie those who are chasing you for the debt.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Craig
We are joint owners but when he walked out on me and the children a couple of years ago it just went in my name so they now chase me.. I have been here before when he left so I do know my rights.. and what I can and can't do but I am hoping the council see fit to take it back so I deal with them.. and if I only pay them then I know how much I have paid, I have read that the enforcement don't get paid by council ..
If I deny the enforcement entry and non payment but still pay the council they may just take it back.. I do have a lump sum now to pay so here's hoping0 -
