EDF price fluctuations

Hi there,
My housemates and I have just had a revised EDF energy bill through the post. Last year we started off by paying around £90 per month. This lasted for two months until we had a letter through the post explaining that we had been overpaying, and that the new payment per month to compensate the overpayment was to be £3...
Now we all thought that that was suspiciously cheap, but considering it was to compensate for overpayment, and that these are 'professionals' that work for these firms and figure out the rates for customers, and that we even rang up EDF to question this new figure but after they confirmed this was correct, we assumed everything was OK.
Now after around 6 months of paying this sum, we have received yet another revised bill that states we've been underpaying and that we will now have to pay £151 a month, to compensate for EDF's royal cockup!?
I don't see how this is fair to be honest and am seeking advice to help sort out this situation. The fact that we've been pushed into debt against our will is quite frustrating. Any help you can give would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Jack.

They're asking you to repay the interest-free loan they've been giving you for the energy you've used but haven't paid for.0 -
Hi and welcome. Make a complaint to the effect that you cannot afford this huge hike in monthly payment and would not need to had EDF not got their figures in a furore in the first place. Tell them it is stressing you all out (as it really sounds as if it is) See if you can get a few quid credit added to your account, which might reduce the payment a little.
Ensure you have meter readings when you call and state very clearly you are making a complaint so they cannot ignore it. Ask if they are recording the call or, better yet, use their online chat facility and save the screenshots of it so you have proof.
Going forward, make darn sure you submit meter readings every month on the same day of the month (either the first or the last works well) so they have absolutely no excuse for estimating your usage and bill you only for what you have actually used. Watch your online account like a hawk: Tedious? Time-consuming? You betcha. Worth it? Heck, yeah. HTH.0
