O/S Daily Thursday 18 August 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that need/want them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light, very cloudy and overcast but not cold, no breeze either.

DH and DS2 up and ready to go to work, DS2 is going with his dad today. DS1 in bed not feeling too well, so will be there for the day I think.

Dinner last night was pork steaks, mash, LO cauli/broc cheese, carrots, HG green beans and gravy. Tonight fish pie is on the menu, DH may have battered fish - I'll see later which he wants.

Yesterday was quite slow at work, but then had moments where we were busy, again an all or nothing sort of day.

I have all the normal chores to do today, and I'll be heading into town first thing to visit the building society and bank, I also need to fill my car up with petrol as I'm riding around on fumes at the moment. I will potter along. I will need to get the ironing done too, 1 load in the WM at the moment that I will peg out once it's finished, think there's enough for another small load.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

Glorious day yesterday, ate lunch outside - lovely when there are no children! Busy day back at work, it's going to take a while to get everything sorted out. Another in-service today. Lots of time wasted yesterday trying to get logged on to everything again, seems most programmes forget you after 7 weeks!

Dry and bright again today and the washing is on the line, DW emptied and the ironing is done (only because I want to wear a t shirt that was in the pile!).

    Well done Scampi!
Thinking of you csarina and Lainey - is the wedding today?
If so, have a great time.
HH - Hope everyone behaves themselves.
Sounds like you are having a good time JackieO, great weather too.
Hope you are feeling better RR.

Enjoy your day, take care. XX

    Morning all,

Been raining in the night but looks like it will brighten up later on, I had left a few bits on the line overnight which will now be wet but will dry eventually.

Im going to stay off today again I do feel better but it comes in waves and its better to stay off any fully recovered I really don't want to be ill over my holiday too.

Need to finish my packing today and I might do an online shop for when we get back.

Something with mince for dinner might do a spag bol.

    Have good days all xx

Hope yesterday went well Lainey xx
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC for starting us off. A cloudy start for us but forecast to improve.

We got back last night from our five days over at the caravan after enjoying lovely weather the whole time. Did a lot of reading and Olympics watching but also managed our day at Ripon Races on Tuesday (one win and two money backs) and a walk along the banks of the Nidd on Monday on otter watch. Sadly we didn't see them but enjoyed it all the same! Took a picnic lunch with us and sat atop the disused railway embankment to eat it and enjoy the pastoral scenes around us.

Got all the washing done last night and that is ready to peg out shortly. Then will make a start on our packing for the IOW as we leave Saturday. DD and the clan are having a lovely time and, although rain is forecast for the weekend the sunshine is supposed to be back again next week so it's fingers crossed!

A few other jobs to fit in too before we go. Our scripts to pick up, Mr TA's blood tests due and we want to get our rail tickets and book seats for our visit to the Royal Liverpool two days after we get back from the IOW. It's all too-ing and fro-ing just now!

Our local heroes, the Brownlee Bros are doing the Triathlon today so must make time to cheer them on. That will be another two medals for GB for sure.

LAINEY I hope the wedding went off well and everyone managed to enjoy it. DUMPLING hope it's the same for you tomorrow. CSARINA you are trying to do too much. Let the housework slide a bit and look after yourself. Hope DH soon gets sorted out as hospital visiting is so draining. (((HUGS))) also to the poorlies, so many bugs about just now. Take care all and have a good day xx

Morning! Thanks for the thread nmlc X

Hope you had a lovely time at the wedding Lainey xx
TA - glad you had a nice time away X

Off to the gym shortly - didn't go on Tuesday and I actually missed it! Then in the charity for a few hours. We are off to a local modern curry house for a friend's birthday tonight. Children will have filled fresh pasta with sauce.

Hoping to have news today or tomorrow about DH's interview. He thinks he did okay but you just never know. No news on the other two from last week. I can understand if you send in your cv and don't hear back due to lots of applicants, but when they've actually SEEN you for an interview, it's just plain rude not to give feedback. Sorry, rant over!

Hope you all have a great day.

    Thanks for the thread nmlc,
No idea what today will bring so we will go with the flow. DD2's dog has settled in, she is always happy to be here.
The work on the house has slowed down hubby's friend needs support at the moment.
    Have a good day everyone.

Morning, lovely and bright here though the forecast is for clouds, I am a boring person who heads to the weather forecast as soon as I get up.
Am still feeling a bit cr*p but have a lot to do. I don't have to replace lost time at work but do have to catch up on jobs so today am going to do some work at home and then have to head out to the back of beyond to see someone for an hour, so need to work out how to get there.
Washing done and ready for the mister to spiderman out of the window. He doesn't want to badger the letting agents in case they give us notice and we end up needing to move before we are ready, I don't really view this as badgering, I would have thought that it is a pretty basic requirementioned that we can get out of the back door. However he is always right especially when he's wrong.
I don't have anything at all interesting to say so will just wish everyone a good day.

    Morning everyone,

Rather misty here at the moment, hoping it will burn off later.

Wedding was lovely, as the weather was so warm the actual ceremony was conducted on the banks of the lake within the grounds rather than inside the house. My niece looked stunning, her dress cream lace simple but elegant, her sister walked her down the aisle in a dress of blush lace, not a dry eye in the house. She had two other adult bridesmaids in charcoal lace and two little ones in blush dresses. Her man had two best men as couldn't decide between his friends, they all looked suitably resplendent right down to their fob watches.

That was the good part, bad part was the emotion of the day and the heat all got too much for my darling Mum and she passed out :( could see was she going so managed to catch her and gently lower to the ground. Luckily the grooms Mum is a nurse so she stepped in and very quickly got her in recovery position etc. The groom is also a firemen so plenty of emergency services on hand!
Think she had touch of sun stroke as was sick couple of times and upshot of it all is that she had to come home before meals, speeches etc so missed out on a lot of the day. I sat with her until 8ish when my DB came to mine to swap and that meant I could at least go back for a couple of hours.
So, not quite the day we were all hoping but at least Mum got to see the ceremony and her granddaughter wed.
She is tired this morning but have just taken her a cuppa, we can have a quiet day at home today. I'm tired too, all the emotion and worry I guess.

Have a good day everyone, take care folks x
