Do you eat the plasticky bit under the red wax on Edam?

My husband cuts it off, whereas I've always eaten it. I think he's always been told it's bad, but it was always my favourite bit, oddly, lol!

What does everyone else do? I'm asking cos his fad about it has got me chopping it off for our 2 kids, and has made me paranoid that it's got something carcinogenic in it or whatever But then that's loads in the bin, which is not good when we're brassic.

I eat it and have done for years and I am still batting at 64....mind you someone will come alnong and tell you it causes something horrible!!!! If it makes you feel better, cut it off with a very sharp knife or change the cheese you eat!!!

Using a veg peeler I find wastes less cheese getting it off

Eww, i cant stand it either, my mum always used to shout at me for wasting it when i cut it off. She never minded it.
