Eon Joint Bill?

Hello there,

My fiance has an account with E-on for gas and electric. We would like me to be added to the account so that we get correspondence addressed to both of us jointly. This has not been a problem with utility companies in the past, however, when my fiance phoned E-on today, he was told that E-on is not able to do this. Does anyone know if that is really the case full stop, or whether that was just the person he spoke to who didn't know how to or want to do this?

Finally, does anyone know of any energy companies who are willing to do this, as we will look into switching companies.

Thanks everyone!

I've had similar queries in the past with Eon and yes they only allow one person to be listed on the bill as the bill payer.

I seem to remember one of their Reps telling me its was down to the credit report
  • Ah, okay. Thanks for your help. I guess we'll be switching providers then!

Hello ghibligirl and welcome to the Forums.

Wolf3 and the advisor your fiance spoke to are right, we no longer have joint accounts. This is because we share information with Credit Reference Agencies when doing credit checks.

Accounts can be noted with permission for another named person to discuss it but can only be in a single name. We made this change in November 2011. Before that, accounts could be in joint names. Customers with us before then may still have accounts in joint names. After this, it was single names only.

Sorry this isn't what you want to hear ghibligirl but hope this clears up any confusion.

Why would you want a utility account in joint names? Your strategy should be to have everything possible in single names. That way, you minimise the opportunity for the CRAs to publish erroneous data about you concerning financial associates. The only instance where you should consider joint names/accounts is a bank current account. And even then, with the tendency of CRAs to publish lies about financial associations, you should think twice about it.

Spot on Wolf3. Not sure if it was me or Helena who mentioned it. It's right, though. As above, since November 2011, our accounts have only been in a single name.

    Malc,

Don't you mean that since November 2011 your new accounts have only been in a single name? That is the inference to be drawn from:-

Or has the single-name-only policy been imposed also on those with historical joint-name accounts who've switched tariffs (presumably, from your Standard Variable) since November 2011?
  • Thanks for clarifying, Malc!

That's right Sosumi. Since November 2011, new accounts have been in the one name only. Customers with accounts in more than one name before this weren't affected. If they're still with us, the account will be in the same names. Changing tariff doesn't have an impact on this.

    Hope this explains.
