Cant update vista security on computer

I am visiting mum for the week. She has a pc with windows vista.
she said her security isnt updating properly. when I looked at her security centre this is what i find
Firewall is on
Automatic updating is on
Malware protection is out of date so both virus and malware needs updating

I tried updating these but nothing happened.
If i need to install a malware virus protector i will, i tried outpost and it kept putting popups so i removed it. She needs something low techie.

thank you

  • I might be wrong but I thought that Microsoft were no longer providing support for Vista

Seen this before. It was down to Windows update not working properly as Vista like XP does not support all the functionality of the new update agent.

You can either manually download the update and run it. Or use WSUS Offline update to do the update.

if you need a lightweight (and with vista, the more lightweight the better) anti-virus, but bitdefender free edition on it. You'll need to create a bitdefender login, but it's just for activation purposes.

Also might be worth running a Malwarebytes scan to be on the safe side http://filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.
