Tax credits overpayment

Hi guys.. just been told by tax credits that I had an over payment of £245 from last year... And have halved my next 2 payments and 30 off the following.. payments then go back to the same as what they have been paying me
I gave them the figures as requested from the p60 and the difference between the last and this yrs p60 was just over £2000
Just read this on a leaflet downloaded from hmrc you don't have to pay an overpayment section...

• your income in 2016 to 2017 is more than £2,500 higher than it was in 2015 to 2016

Can I appeal ?
Doesn't sound alot but £108 from an already tight monthly budget it is...
Thanks for any helpful comments in advance...

was your award originally based on the previous years figure or an estimate?
If you gave an estimate, the £2.5k is already factored in
if your award was based on previous years income, £2k should not have caused an overpayment

Thanks for ur input.. will have to speak to someone as done it via online chat.. but I gave them all that was requested... I'm sure a 2000+ over estimate would warrant more than 245 as overpayment?

    As you are referring to P60s you'll mean 2014/15 and 2015/16 as 2016/17 hasn't ended yet so you won't have a P60.

The disregard for those years was £5,000.

Did you estimate 2015/16 income at any point during that year?

No think there may have been an estimate for 14-15 as was on mat leave.. even still wouldn't have been an estimate as knew what I was earning as not a tax payer...

Not really sure what else we can tell you at this point then. You need to first establish the reason for the overpayment. From there we can help what route to do down.

Call them and ask or try comparing your awards notice from before the change and after the overpayment.

What was the household income for 2014/15 and 2015/16?
