How to get vehicle reg - RTA?

I was a passenger on a bus which was involved in an accident 3 weeks ago.

I was OK at the time, but have developed pain in my neck, which is going into my shoulders. I thought it'd go away, but it hasn't and GP has recommended physio. Waiting list on NHS is long for this, and cannot afford to go privately. Dr gave me diazepam initially, which I had an allergic reaction to, so has then given me co-codamol to take.

My issue is that I don't know the reg of the car or the bus - does anyone know how I can get hold of this? I didn't take it at the time as I was OK.

If I call the bus company, would they be allowed to give me the reg of the car involved? If I instruct a solicitor, would they be able to help find the reg?

(I work in home insurance so have no idea how motor insurance works!)

You can claim against the bus company.
  • Not necessarily Quentin unless there is a liability dispute that arises from the other motorist or the OP can establish a breach of duty of care by the bus driver.

My recommendation would be to call the bus co, explain the bus route you were on and the date, time & location of the collision and ask them to provide the details of the vehicles and drivers involved. They may ask you to request this from them in writing as per section 35 of the data protection act.

Once you have the info decide if you are going to appoint a solicitor to deal or deal directly with the insurer of the party at fault.

If the OP's rep approaches the bus company with a claim and the bus company deny liability they will refer the OP (or their Rep) to the third party they consider liable.

I'm surprised you even noticed a bus hitting a car yet alone got whiplash from it. No wonder insurance premiums are so expensive.

Surprised it took until the 6th post for this standard reply when someone mentions being hurt in a car accident. Sometimes maybe people are actually genuinely hurt

....and sometimes after a while they think they might be able to claim something. I am very sceptical that a bus hitting a car is going to cause whiplash to anyone on the bus!

Not that I need to justify myself to you, but the car impacted the side of the bus, not the rear. The car hit the bus right where I was sitting.
  • Don't worry, plenty of brainwashed types about who have got used to reading the bile the insurance industry keep putting out in the press - "we're putting your premiums up because of all those whiplash claims" - and then believe the rubbish.
