Metre Reading Help!

Hi All,

IHi All,

I recently moved into a new apartment and I am having difficulty reading the electricity metre. When I click on the display button it first shows the time, then the date and then has 5 different rates that follow.

I submitted rates 1 and 2 to first utility as this is what they advised when I said it was an economy 7 metre. However we have been there 3 weeks and rates 1 and 2 havent changed. I have sent the pictures of my metre to First Utility who then asked me to send them the day and night rates for the next 7 days…but the problem is there are 5 rates and I don’t know which ones to give  I have gone back to them but hoped someone here might have a similar metre and might be able to assist quicker?

Thanks in advance

I think it depends on the telemeter type.........does it have the date and time separate from the 5 readings

from what i remember the Horstmann E7 telemeter read
    Rate 1 - Day
    Rate 2 - Night
Rate 3 - Test read (should be 88888)
    Rate 4 - Time
    Rate 5 - Date

If there are 5 reads and a date an time on the meter you probably have a Legacy tariff meter which is specific to the area of the country you live in and will find it very hard to switch supplier

There is a possibility that if the rates 1 and 2,( the day and night) remain static that the meter has been bypassed under the lower cover. Also check if the little red light remains on and is nt flashing on and off as it should do when electricity is being used, that is another give-away that the meter is bypassed..a solid red light when electricity is being used above a very low level.

As you cycle through the displays, there will probably be a smaller number at the side of each display - use displays 1 and 2 as given above for the required readings.

Why would you expect the rates to change? Those are your tariff(s).

You should expect the reading(s) of the number of units consumed to change.

Perhaps you should have sent FU pictures of your foot, instead? :D

Credit meters do not show the tariff.Smart meters will and so do prepayment meters.OP says the rates 1 and 2 havent changed !! they should have changed if he had used electricity in the day and night , even if its just a unit or two.
when someone says "rate " 1 or "rate " 2 they are referring to either day or night on an Eco 7 meter. Usually rate 1 on digital meters will be the day rate, rate 2 the night rate..but not always.Check which index moves in the daytime period.
Another reason that the rates 1 and 2 havent moved is that he is looking at the wrong meter in a meter cupboard and that flat is vacant.

Indeed. Perhaps he should send them pictures of his yard, as well. :D
