Help - How bad is the HSBC Account Opening Phone call ?

I am upgrading my HSBC advance account and they phoned me to tell me they would call me tomorrow to do the upgrade application over the phone, and it would take around 40 minutes !.
I said why because I already have an account so you already know my income etc, but they said it was for 'Compliance with the rules and regulations'.
I don't see why it would take 40 minutes, and after searching on here it seems they asked you everything except what you had for breakfast !.
So really how bad is it, or do they just waffle on for 35 minutes and you speak for 5 minutes !.
Thanks

Sorry but this makes no sense for the following reasons:
You call HSBC they don't call you, or you go into a branch.
Your cannot upgrade a HSBC Advance account as there is nothing beyond that type of account, so do you mean you have a HSBC bank account that you want to upgrade to a advance account ?, if so you will need to go into a branch as they won't phone you.0 -

When I had my call they seemed to have got my complete internet browsing history from somewhere and proceeded to quiz me in minute detail on the exact purpose of my visit to various web pages.
It was quite an uncomfortable 40 minutes. Do you really want the upgrade that much?0 -
HSBC can & do call you at an allotted time - I went through something similar when I opened a business account online - they called to go through a few things, I'm sure they allowed an hour for that, but it only took about 20 mins. I'm sure it won't take the full 40 mins, they just have to take into account slow talkers, chatty people & people who aren't prepared & have to run around finding various bits of info.Wondering how to have a life & not rack up more debts...0

Well, actually there is , it's the HSBC Premier account- but it isn't for the likes of me!!
I opened a new regular savier a/c with HSBC last week over the phone and it took at least 30 minutes- I was warned it could take 45 minutes! he said they needed to update all my details- silly really as zero zilch had changed!! but we went through it all anyway.Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!
