Rural area - only BT or TalkTalk to choose from...which is better for FAST broadband?

Hi everyone,

I work from home running a website and social media amongst other things and so it's essential that when we move to our new home we have a good internet connection.

We currently have Virgin Fiberoptic which is great but I have checked and in the new area we can only have BT or TalkTalk.

Does anyone know if either supplier provides a similarly speedy broadband connection? And which would you recommend? We've never been with BT but have been with TalkTalk in the past and always found them quite good really. I'm tempted by a £115 cashback offer through Quidco for joining BT at the moment but don't want to be lured in if we'll end up paying more in the long run or have a poor service.

Any advice, previous experiences appreciated!
Thanks

IT will be the same for both , Adsl using the BT Openreach copper pair , only difference is how much capacity talk talk and BT have at the exchange

Not strictly true. It will depend if BT Wholesale supply ADSL2+ from the exchange or not. Talk talk are LLU and sometimes offer speeds of up to 24mbps (advertised as up to 17mbps) whereas BT can sometimes only offer up to 8mbps.

Check samknows for your exchange data.

I suspect that you will find a few other providers out there, including Plusnet, Sky and Origin Broadband.

If you have been used to Virgin, then you may find that you need a fibre service rather than plain old ADSL. The availability of this depends on if you are moving to an area with FTTC and how far you are from the cabinet.

Also, if you are running a business from home, you probably ought to be considering a business contract with your intended ISP.

If you work from home then you need a business account .That will give you service level agreements as opposed to tough your service is down .

The problem is that not everywhere has fibre access.

We live in the middle of a large city, but are not due to receive fibre for ages, the date being constantly extended.
