Can't give advice on medical issues on MSE. Perhaps ask on a OA website.

Someone I once chatted with was given some kind of injection for severe back pain, but I don't know what the injections were.

They were given a number of times, certainly on the NHS, as she had to call paramedics, being unable to move and living alone. She said they were effective but didn't last long.

I've never been offered any injections; just increased doses of stronger painkillers in tablet form.

I have had injections before on the NHS but the Durolane ones are not done by the NHS you have to pay to go private

Well all booked in for next week so hopefully they will give some relief even if it is for 6 months that would be great, but at £900 it may be difficult to maintain, but then I guess £900 to be pain free would be something I would look at, teddys mum can I ask what pain relief you are on please as my doctor is against prescribing any stronger painkillers due to my tiredness - which I have tried to explain is due to not sleeping for the pain keeps me awake :-(

  • Durolane is used in the NHS, but you'll either need an individual funding request to the CCG or a consultant that is willing to prescribe off label. If your consultant has said an outright no then it is likely your area has an outright ban (or they are too lazy to talk you through all available options).

If you do a search on the NICE evidence base you can get an idea for how successful the outcomes can be.
