Fascias and Soffits - replace or cover?

Hi,
Our house has wooden fascias and soffits and we'd like to get them either covered up or replaced. The problem is, different companies are recommending different things - some are saying that just covering them would be more than sufficient (and reading things like this article agree with that line of thought) however we've also been told that it's far more likely to cause problems down the line if we don't get them replaced (which this article explains in some detail).
Any thoughts please? Thank you

My thoughts...
My wooden soffits were in poor shape and a bit rotten and damp at the edges which was why we wanted them replacing. It didn't even ocurr to me that we would leave them in place and I would have been horrified if they had simply covered them up as that would have boxed in the dampness and they would almost certainly still be rotting away for some time.
Obviously yours might be in better shape but if wood then I would wonder if its best to remove.
Hope this helps0 -
I'm sure you'll get both arguments here just as you've found elsewhere. My only thoughts would be to suggest using a roofer rather than a plastic installer.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

I'd only cap if the wood was in a reasonably solid condition.0

Would you mind explaining what wood sweating is?0
