Too hot shower

Hi all, seeking some advice for my daughter. They had an electric shower in their home and a few weeks ago it would produce very hot water no matter how cold you set the adjusting switch for.My opinion was the thermostat had failed and as the shower was 10 years old they bought a new one, same make just modern version.
Now the shower was fitted by a known professional plumber who they used before and could vouch for his work. They were away for a couple of days at the time and returned yesterday so tried the new shower.Problem is the brand new shower appears to be suffering almost the same problem as the old one in as much as no matter how cold you select the temperature it is still far too hot.
Now the big difference between old and new is you can raise the temperature to very hot on the new one but as I said even at its lowest setting its still hot where I would have expected cold similar to our own.
So,is there a fault in the new shower? or is there anyway to adjust the temperature on the thermostat itsself? any help as usual appreciated...
P.S.Its not a powershower and has only one cold water pipe connecting to it..

Make and model would help but it seems like it is an electric shower if there is only one cold water pipe connected to it and NO hot water pipe. This makes me think it is the thermostat that has failed/is failing. Could be a fault on the new one but I don't like coincidences, possible get it checked out by an electrician.
Oops just seen you have said electric shower in your OP.0 -
Maybe the shower is being fed by a hot water pipe?0

No its a cold water supply to shower,I looked at it today and when its switched on with temperature set as cold as possible it starts with the water cold but within a minute the temperature rises until its "just" tolerably hot where in therory it should be cold, shes contacting plumber again when shes home from work for his opinions..0 -
higher water flow = colder shower. Is there no summer setting?
what's the water pressure and flow like, stopcock fully open?
is the head covered in limescale or set to the wrong water pattern?Don't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0 -
How many dials are there on the shower?
Most showers have two dials, one dial for switching it on and selecting the power level (normally 2 power setting - high/low) and a second dial for adjusting the temperature which works by varying the water flow.
In warm weather with warm tap water, running full power, even at minimum temperature (max water flow) they can be too hot - selecting the lower power level drops the temperature.
I get the same thing with mine.
[Edit] if it hasn't got dials, look for a low power, or Eco setting, something to knock the power down.0 -
The cheaper electric ones don't even have a thermostat, except possibly for an overheat cut-out. You have to control the temperature manually.
As a previous poster has said, look for a smaller knob, or row of buttons, to turn the power down.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0
