What is the best way to send this?

Hi,
I have been looking on the Royal mail site but I could still do with some advice. I have yet to list this item so I don't know the exact value.
I have a parcel which weighs 1.7kg, its about 12x8x4inches so not massive and is worth about £100. I will be sending it inland but want the reassurance of it being signed for.
1st class recorded only compensates up to £32 and parcel force is £14.99 but I'm not sure how much compensation this is for.
What would be the best way of sending this? Can I extend the compensation with Royal mail?
Sorry if this is a daft question!
Sarah

I send everything 2nd class recorded. The most expensive item I have sent recorded was an item that was £220.
Bit of a risk but all I want is a signiture.0 -

Waaaay too risky for me. I have more problems with Royal mail than I have ever had with all my buyers on ebay on all my accounts. Recorded for me is actually less likely to arrive that standard mail, so I would never ever risk an item worth more than £34 to recorded delivery alone knowing I had no claim for loss in the post.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Guess you have been lucky.
So what would have happened if your £220 item had gone missing ? You are down £220.
If you wish to conduct your business this way it's up to you but is not really very sensible advice for a forum such as this.0 -

You can send Special Delivery from your normal Post Office just like 1st Class, no account needed.Cross Stitch Cafe Member No1WIP: Cross Stitch: - Crochet:0

Have you considered payperdrop on ebay? Ive used them a few times, once for an item with a value of £110. Very fast and efficient
Cost £5.99

Avoid couriers if at all possible (ie under 2Kg). Customers hate them. Having to wait in all day for a delivery is a nightmare. Royal Mail SD is the way to go.0
