Are there regulations on where an extractor fan vent can be located on block of flats

We moved into a rented top floor apartment earlier this year. Lovely apartment.
Next door flat was vacant and was rented a few months later.
The guy deep fries food every night between 9pm – 11pm (just around bedtime for me). His kitchen extractor fan vent is next to my bedroom window. Meaning now in the summer when its hot and I would like some fresh air or a breeze, my bedroom and then apartment gets filled up with thick heavy fried food smells which don’t leave. My bedding constantly smells like fried food despite washing it regularly.
Obviously I cant tell him to stop cooking what he likes when he likes. But is there any regulations about where extractor fan vents can be located? It seems crazy that a builder has constructed a block of purpose built flats with kitchens backing onto bedrooms with the fans right next to the windows.
I have only been there 6 months now, but its getting so upsetting and frustrating that I just want to leave. I have not yet contacted my landlord and want to see if there is any actual building regulation that covers this before I do so, as I doubt they can do anything otherwise.
I want to pack up and leave right now after another terrible night of it, and am starting to sleep in the lounge rather than the bedroom due to the smells.
I understand people need to cook and like all sorts of different things, and if this was an occasional thing I don’t think I would worry.
I wouldn’t have rented a place above a fish and chip shop for that very reason.
Please help!

Thats really bad that someone would install an extractor vent right next to bedroom window. If it was me I wouldnt rent that flat for that reason. Didnt you inspect before renting the flat? I dont think there is any rules where to locate them but maybe common sense!0

you cant see the extractor vent unless you reach your head out the window.
Didnt think to do that when viewing the flat and it was only after wondering where the smells were coming from that we looked and realised it was so close.0
