Opinions on name please!!!

I started a shop on ebay using the id hippylicious - then I called my shop hippylicious-crafts. I really like it but

Have now expanded into my own small business and am setting up my own website. I've only just realised (don't ask why it took so long:rolleyes: ) that I can't use my ebay shop name for my website business.......

Would it be best to change the ebay shop name or the new business? I want to keep hippylicious - is that ok? Or against ebay rules?

How about hippylicious-fairtrade or something like that? Which should I change and to what?

Thanks for any ideas................

  • Why cant you use your ebay shop name?

Surely if you are the same entity then the intellectual copyright is yours?

Cos ebay know that if your website is the same as your ebay shop name then any searches would bring up your website - free advertising I guess. I can put my website address on my 'about me' page on ebay but can't use it on my listings. Perhaps I'll pop over to the ebay board to see if anyone else has had this dilemma - thanks anyway:D

Sorry, maybe i'm missing something...who says or where does it say you can't use the same name?! I think it's unlikely anyone at Ebay towers is going to spot it to be honest. I agree with the intellectual property suggestion above too. In fact I'm guessing that if I wanted to open a business called hippylicious-crafts, you would have more right to stop me than ebay has to stop you!

Maybe I have missed something? I'd think very carefully before you name your business, particularly when thinking about your URL or buying a domain name. You want something that people A) can remember and B) can spell!
Completely OT maybe ;) but HTH

  • I think morty_007 could be on to something with the spelling. You could always buy hippylicious.com, hippylicious-crafts.com (plus .co.uk). Then buy something simpler and point them to the simplicious* domain name.

    Maybe hccraft.com? or hipcraft.com? or hippycraft.com?

The less characters the better, avoid dashes and underscores as they do tend to get forgotten/missed off.

    *Very bad pun intended
