They came up cheapest through insuresupermarket. Something to do with MotorQuoteDirect or something?

I've never heard of them though and a quick Google search was inconclusive aswell!

You can search on the FSA site to see if a firm is authorised:

There are quite a few Paragons so it will help if you have the postcode.

I think the Paragon you're referring to are based in Dartford, Kent. The polcies are underwritten by Santam Europe Limited based in Dublin i.e. Paragon ae not the "insurance company" in the strict sense of the word.
