Refunding overseas transactions

I recently paid for a hotel in Jamaica using an Egg Card. The hotel entered the charge twice. I complained and they eventually made a refund. However, the charge was in US dollars and the change in the exchange rate during the intervening period and an overseas transaction charge added by Egg have resulted in me being refunded £67 less than the initial charge. The hotel say they refunded the amount they mistakenly charged and Egg have merely informed me of thier charges and their unwillingness to pursue the case. Does anyone know what recourse I have here?

If it was me and it was the hotel that made the error then the hotel should have to pay for it.
Whether you get any further with the hotel is another matter and certainly not worth spending a great deal of money on.
If you get no joy from the hotel try sending a secure message to Egg - it might be dealt with someone more sympathetic to your argument.0 -
As its the hotels error you should approach them
State in unequivocal terms that unless they recompense you the full sum they took including the exchange loss you will raise it as a dispute with your bank
If the funds dont appear contact your banks dispute department and explain the situation and state you want to raise a dispute for both the original duplicate and the refund emphasising the fact the duplicate was 100% an error and was not authorised in anyway
If your bank doesnt do this get the ombudsman involved0 -
For the discrepancy to be £67 over a small period of time the exchange rate would have had to change by a truly massive percentage and that's unlikely. Are you sure it's all down to the exchange rate ?0
